Not the usual Primitivo. This wine promises a fresh and contemporary sip, surprising you with a lighter and more carefree interpretation of Puglia. It comes from 50-year-old vines rescued from uprooting by a young Italian lawyer living between London and Puglia. The vineyard is now farmed sustainably, with minimal intervention and full respect for natural cycles, resulting in an organic, low-impact Primitivo.
This new-generation Primitivo stands in clear contrast to the heavy, traditional styles of the region. In the cellar, traditional techniques and simple, artisanal processes preserve the pure character of the grapes, combining the structure of calcareous soils with the freshness and spicy notes from sandy clay. The result is a vibrant and joyful wine: bright in color, with aromas of red fruit and spice, and a smooth, flowing palate that offers a modern and playful expression of the grape.
Versatile and refreshing, this is a Primitivo to enjoy in a relaxed way — lightly chilled from the fridge on a summer day or as an aperitif year-round. A wine made for moments where quality meets spontaneity.
Best served between 12 and 18°C · Alcohol: 13.5%
In the heart of Puglia, aTerra was born from a young lawyer's act of passion. Andrea Cavone, who splits his time between London and Puglia, founded the winery during lockdown to save a 40-year-old primitive vineyard from being uprooted. This deeply personal project was an act of reconnecting with his family's history and land.
aTerra represents a unique approach to winemaking. This small team embraces advanced technology but with an artisanal philosophy, focusing on producing genuine wines without chemical additives. Their mission is to create an honest expression of the land and grapes, refusing to be influenced by market trends or shortcuts.
Working with two distinct terroirs, the team ensures that every bottle reflects a profound respect for the land and a story of shared passion and purpose. This is a winery that honors its past while crafting a modern vision for the future of Puglian wine.
The wine hails from Puglia, a sun-drenched region of ancient viticulture. The Primitivo grape itself is a historical treasure, with documented origins in the Manduria area. This land, known as the 'heel of Italy's boot,' provides the ideal climate and heritage for producing exceptional wines . aTerra's unique approach to winemaking is rooted in a blend of two distinct terroirs.
The structure and body of the wine come from grapes grown in the calcareous soils of Sannicandro di Bari, located near Bari. The freshness and spicy notes, in contrast, come from grapes grown in the sandy and clay soils of Ortanova, in the northern part of the region. This masterful blend is what makes the wine so distinctive. By combining these two unique expressions of the land, the wine tells a story of a young, modern vision rooted in a deep respect for the region's history, resulting in a Primitivo that truly represents its unique and diverse terroir.
