Most people don't know that Abruzzo makes rosé from Montepulciano — the same grape as the region's famous red — but vinified to bring out a completely different side. The result is a rosé with real structure and character, not a pale, delicate thing.

In the glass it's a vivid cherry red with fresh red fruit, a light spicy note and a palate that's lively and food-friendly. This is a rosé that can hold its own at the table.

Pierluigi's Note: This is not a summer sipper, it's a proper wine. Works beautifully with cured meats, grilled fish, a good pasta or a full-fat cheese. The kind of rosé that changes your mind about rosé. Serve cold at around 10–12°C.

Vigneti Radica is a three-generation family estate in Tollo, in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. Their vineyards sit between the Adriatic coast and the Maiella mountains — one of the highest ranges in the Apennines — a position that gives the wines a natural tension between warmth and altitude.

Everything here is organic and farmed sustainably, with a clear focus on preserving the character of the land. Their flagship line is called I Tori — the bulls, or "li Ture" in local dialect — a symbol of strength and rootedness that fits the wines well.

Abruzzo sits on the central Adriatic coast, sandwiched between the sea and some of the highest peaks in the Apennines. It's a region of extremes — warm coastal plains on one side, wild mountain terrain on the other — and that contrast shows up in the wines.

The soils are varied and mineral-rich, the altitude keeps the acidity sharp, and the Adriatic breeze does the rest. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the region's signature red, deep and characterful. But Abruzzo is also home to Pecorino, a white grape that's been quietly gaining the attention it deserves — savoury, fresh, and with real personality.
