Pecorino is one of those grapes that's been quietly growing in central Italy for centuries without getting much attention. This one comes from between the Adriatic coast and the Maiella mountains, where the temperature swings and mineral soils give the wines a character you don't get elsewhere. Hand-picked, fermented in steel, aged briefly on the lees to build a little texture without losing freshness.

In the glass it's aromatic and precise — white-fleshed fruit, citrus, wild flowers and a distinct mineral, savoury note that lingers on the palate. More intense and savoury than a Pecorino from Marche. This is Abruzzo's version, and it's the better for it.

Pierluigi's Note: A great white for the table. Works perfectly with fish, shellfish, light pasta dishes or fresh cheese. The kind of white you keep reaching for throughout the meal. Serve cold at 4–6°C.

Vigneti Radica is a three-generation family estate in Tollo, in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. Their vineyards sit between the Adriatic coast and the Maiella mountains — one of the highest ranges in the Apennines — a position that gives the wines a natural tension between warmth and altitude.

Everything here is organic and farmed sustainably, with a clear focus on preserving the character of the land. Their flagship line is called I Tori — the bulls, or "li Ture" in local dialect — a symbol of strength and rootedness that fits the wines well.

Abruzzo sits on the central Adriatic coast, sandwiched between the sea and some of the highest peaks in the Apennines. It's a region of extremes — warm coastal plains on one side, wild mountain terrain on the other — and that contrast shows up in the wines.

The soils are varied and mineral-rich, the altitude keeps the acidity sharp, and the Adriatic breeze does the rest. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the region's signature red, deep and characterful. But Abruzzo is also home to Pecorino, a white grape that's been quietly gaining the attention it deserves — savoury, fresh, and with real personality.
